I love a good podcast, but the truth is, I’m a very serious book lover. It’s my favorite way to unwind from a day, or just totally lose yourself in another world for a few hours. When you sleep as much — or should I say as little — as I do, you’ve got some extra time to devour a book (or ten).
During Prime Day I signed up for three free months of their Kindle Unlimited service. I’ve really been trying to take advantage of it and see if it’s worth my money when the trial runs out. So far I’m definitely getting my money’s worth! I love getting book recommendations from friends so I thought I’d share in case you’re a fellow book nut.
Stir Crazy Book Recommendations
Two Not-Too-Scary Thrillers To Read this Fall
Into Thin Air ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I thought this mystery was great! It was a thriller that kept me interested the entire time without me figuring it out until the end. It’s about a private investigator who finds out that she herself is a missing person. She goes back to the small town where it all began to get to the bottom of her disappearance as a child. It was a quick read and I highly recommend it if you like mysteries.
I am Watching You ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
This book was a fun, quick mystery read. A girl goes missing and the book tells the story from each perspective. I read it in record speed because each chapter is written from a different character’s view so I would read on and on to find out the next development. It wasn’t scary at all, but a good mystery that didn’t disappoint.
Rising Strong ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you loved the Brené Brown Netflix special, you’ll love this book. It expands upon her vulnerability research and introduces the phrase, “The story I’m telling myself…” It’s a very powerful phrase if you’re ever feeling like your partner, friends, etc. have done something to hurt you. Basically it gives you a conversation starter that makes no assumptions and is non-confrontational to the other person. We have been using it at home and it’s amazing how well it works.
My Current Cookbook
Cooking With: Canning for a New Generation
I have been cooking out of this cookbook for years, but recently I came upon some okra and this book has my favorite Creole Spiced Pickled Okra recipe in it! It’s spicy but not too spicy, and super easy to put together. If you’ve wanted to get into some canning but you’ve been too nervous, this is definitely the book you need.
Books My Husband Read
Spearhead ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Last year when we went skiing we actually met this author’s sister. She mentioned her brother and his book, so of course we bought it immediately. We also went to his local stop on his book tour at Magic City Books. His stories are so impressive, it’s hard to believe it’s non-fiction. Can’t wait to get my hands on this one.
Books my Kids are Loving
My kids have TONS of books. It was hard for me to pick their current favorites, but these books are the ones that we come back to time and time again.
Children’s Encyclopedia
This book has really been a hit with Harris this year. He’s four, so he’s in that age where he wants allllll the information. We read it every single night, and we’ve all learned so much!
The Book with No Pictures
This book is so unique I love getting it as gifts for other kids. My kids just crack up every time we read it.
Bear Snores On
My 2-year-old, Lee, has been absolutely loving this book. We read it, we tell the story, and we read it some more. It’s really cute and I don’t mind reading it over and over.
How Do Dinosaurs Play With Their Friends?
Lee got some of these dinosaur books this year for his birthday and we really like them. They’re short but sweet with a good message on how to behave in all kinds of situations.
I love hearing what friends are reading, too! Please drop me a comment or email to let me know if you have any good ones.
