Flower Arranging Tips for Beginners

Flower Arranging Tips for Beginners

Yum

January 10, 2020 by Daisi Owens

So many of you told me you enjoyed the flower arranging tips that Katie in the Details shared with me on IGTV. Whether you haven’t had a chance to see it yet, or you’re like me and a total flower arranging beginner that could use another refresher, here’s the full video complete with all of Katie’s amazing advice. If I can do it, anyone can!

I also made a list of the tips I learned and listed them out below, so you can watch the video or read along for step-by-step instructions. You’ll be a professional in no time!

Katie’s 5 Tips for the Perfect Flower Arrangement

1. Remove The Leaves

Removing the leaves before placing the flowers in the vase will prevent bacteria from contaminating the water and increases longevity. Basically, this keeps the water from being disgusting, and if you’re already going to all the trouble of making your own arrangement, you want it to last as long as possible!

2. Use Warm Water

Warm water actually encourages the water to rise into the stems and blooms. How cool is that?!

3. Cut Your Stems at an Angle

To create more surface area for the (warm!) water to get into the stems, cut at a 45-degree angle.

4. Green Means Go

When designing your arrangement, fill it with all your greens first. Next, add flowers in, but move from the largest blooms to the smallest.

5. Change the Water

If you’re going professional and using floral foam, you’ll need to change your water every day. If it’s just stems in water, you can make it every few days. This will give your arrangement the longest life possible, which means you get to enjoy them even longer. Everyone wins!

I hope you found this tutorial as helpful as I did. I love partnering with Katie and I can’t wait to share more tips from her in the future. If you make an arrangement, please tag us both on Instagram! I want to see your hard work in action!
